So, you know I like to be crafty right? And others know I like to be geeky as well. I love playing with electronic stuff, especially with a computer or laptop! Wouldn’t I just love a product that combines the two together?!
Well, here it is. I saw this in my PaperKuts magazine and just went ga-ga over it! It’s the new Xyron Personal Cutting System (coming out this fall!)
The Xyron Personal Cutting System is a portable, book-based digital cutting system. Using computer-on-board technology, the Personal Cutting System offers creative consumers nearly 2000 cutting options through a series of Design Books. Available this Fall for $199.99, the Xyron Personal Cutting System includes a complete Basic Font Design Book (including uppers, lowers, numbers, punctuation and shadows) and Basic Shape Design Book that includes 30 simple shapes!
I would love to get this in the future. Hopefully the price drops down! To think, I thought about buying a Sizzix machine! With this, it’s cheaper, and you can RESIZE the templates! Awesome. :D I think I’m in love. hehehe

What companies will be selling this product?
13/12/2005 at 5:06 pm Permalink
I think only Xyron for the time being.. and then it’ll be released to the other scrapbook stores. They already sold out! Yikes!

The Personal Cutting System is also available from any I Remember When… Consultant. They are expected to start shipping in February, and we’re offering them for a price below MSRP! I’d be glad to help you out if you have any questions – checkout my website at home.swbell.net/thphipps

I was just wondering if anyone has a Xyron Personial Cutting System and how they like it? I’m going to get one as soon as I can. Also where can you get the different cutting books to go with it?

Can you print more then one letter at a time? I have the wishblade and like being able to print the entire word all at once. However, it would be nice to have one more portable.

Ida-Do you like your Wishblade? I am debating between the Personal Cutting System and Wishblade. I don’t know anyone who has one that I can play with. Thanks

The Xyron Personal Cutting System is now in production and should begin shipping in March. (This means that no one actually has them in stock right now but you can pre-order through me – I’m an IRW consultant) The XPCS does not cut more than one letter at a time, but it is very quick and easy to use.
I actually have the Wishblade and love it, but it is a very different cutter than the XPCS (we sell both of these!). For starters you need a computer and possibly a printer hooked up to the WB. The XPCS just needs an outlet to plug into. But, the WB can cut any size image / letter up to 8.5″ wide, while the XPCS cuts in three sizes – about 1″,about 2″,and about 3″ (size varies due to the font differences). There’s also a price difference. The PCS is less expensive initially to get into but the WB offers you much more flexibility and is therefore cheaper over the long haul (especially now that you can cut any TTF you ahve installed!). HTH some! I’d be glad to answer any questions – like I said I have the WB and am very excited about the XPCS!

Actually the Xyron does cut more than one letter at a time. I have the Special Edition Baby kit and used that font to spell “Happy Birthday” and it cut them all at once in the small size. FYI!

Suzie, I ordered a pcs back in november from another IRW consultant, and have yet to get any real answer as to when I will receive it. Have your customers started receiving theirs yet? I really want mine but don’t know what to do.

Lisa Armstrong,
I would definitely be interested in purchasing one of your extra machines, if you don’t already have a taker.
Plz e-mail me @ kjmendoza@yahoo.com. I tried to buy one on HSN, but they sold out.

I missed the HSN special and was considering waiting until the craft stores received them so I could use a coupon. But the more I do the math, the more this adds up to be the better value. If you are still selling it, I would be interested in paying what you paid for it on HSN.
Please contact me at nadia@williamandnadia.com.
Thanks!!!

I am sound sensitive and was in the process of purchasing the Sizzix Sidekick but find the nubmer of pieces available entirely overwhelming. I also promised my husband to keep my supplies to a minimum. Ha! Anyway, please tell me if there are any annoying sounds eminating from the machine.

My cousin purchased the Xyron personal cutting system yesterday. We were so excited about the purchase. We were going to spend all day scrapbooking at the local scrapbook store. After just a few cuts, the paper stopped sticking. It was so frustrating. The store owner called Xryon and they replaced the machine and said it must be defective. The second machine lasted just a little longer than the first before the pad wouldn’t hold the paper anymore and it looked pretty cut up. It is supposed to be self-healing but it didn’t appear to be healing itself. We only managed to get 31 letters and a couple of shapes cut from the two machines and we wasted a whole bunch of paper. My cousin wanted her money back but the store owner said they could not refund the money that approval had to come from Xyron and they would probably replace the machine. After two machines in just a few hours, she didn’t want it replaced. She is still waiting a reply from Xyron. We would not recommend it until they get the pad situation perfected.

I received my xyron PCS today from HSN. I am disappointed in the quality of the cuts. It seems the blade has a tendency to cut off the shape, sort of out of the lines. Circles have flat spots as do letters that shoule be rounded, “G” “e”. etc. Also if the cut is suppose to punch out, like the center of a flower or the top of the “e” (negative space) the cut is not clean. I need to use scissors or craft knife to make the cut clean and detach the piece that should not be there. While watching the demo on HSN I never saw this issue. Just wonder if it is my machine or does anyone else have these problems? Thanks, S.
19/03/2006 at 12:54 am Permalink
I also am very dissapointed with the system. The paper kept coming off, but once I began rubbing it down harder, that resolved the problem. But I’m having the same problems as you, Shirley. I can cut better circles by hand with my 50 cent sissors. The cuts don’t compare to die cuts. I called the helpdesk and explained the problem. They said this was not right. They will have a tech call me on Monday (not there on the weekend) to make some adjustments. So we’ll see. If it does not work any better, I’m returning to HSN. And guess I’ll be out 4 shipping charges, since I ordered three different books to go with it. I’ll let you know how it goes. -Anne-

I was so excited to get my Xyron PCS after seeing the demo on HSN. Mine came in today, and more than likely it is going back to HSN. I have tried about 15 different letters, and not a single one was a successful cut. The letter was not completely cut, the pad stopped holding the paper, or on a couple just ripped the paper rather than cutting. I have put a call in to service desk and hope they have a magic solution. Otherwise, looks like I am out the shipping for the machine and the carrying case.

I also called the help desk on Friday, 3/17/06 and spoke with a very nice person. He went through all the same tips in the instruction manual that I went through, with no resolution. He took my phone number and e-mail address, gave me a case number and said someone would get in touch with me probably on Monday. Well it’s Tuesday, 10pm, no call, no e-mail. My husband was suprised I would purchase a first generation product and not wait until the bugs were worked out. I was just way too excited to think about that part!!! I have my Xyron PCS all packaged up to send back to HSN and I’m in the process of researching other machines. Any suggestions? Also I would like to know if anyone gets a response from the help desk with a resolution. Thanks S

Guys – The not-sticky-emough mat problem has been corrected by Xyron. Apprently there was a batch of bad mats (the first batch tht came out unfortunately). Some of my customers had trouble with them as well. Our consultants have tried to finda solution in the meantime, and they recommend Quilters Adhesive (which won’t gum up the blade) as a quick fix, but contact Xyron and have them send you another mat. The new one work just fine – and there’s no defect with the machine in this case.
As for the paper slipping or the blade not cutting all the way through, all of these problems should be corrected by replacing the mat (or making it more sticky until they get you a new mat) and having it keep the paper in one place. The circles are supposed to be round and the cuts are supposed to be all the way through, so your paper might be slipping around inside the machine.
Feel free to pop me an e-mail if you have any questions about your XPCS – I’m full of all kinds of info. I’m in the process of moving so I can’t check in here as often as I’d like, but I’d be glad to help anyone out that needs help or info! -Suzie (suziephipps@scrappersedge.com)

I was excited about the Xyron machine. I ordered it from HSN. It was a real disappointment. The mat sort of worked on three sheets of paper, after which it didn’t hold at all. I was very upset. I expected a high quality product from Xyron. The demostration on HSN made it seem like this machine would do a fabulous job, but that is not the case. I am not sure if I feel better knowing that I am not the only one who has a problem. I have seen more negative comments for this than any positive ones. The Xyron company should have included an extra mat and blade.

I have been researching other cutting systems since I am disappointed in the Xyron PCS. If money is not an issue for some of you, and even if it is, check out http://www.cricut.com. This is the “new electronic” system by Provo Crafts. If you want to pre-order this system try http://thebunkhouse.zoovy.com They have a $50.00 discount and free shipping!! (On Pre-Orders)
It appears maybe Xyron jumped the gun a little just to be the “first” portable system out there and the quality control suffered a bit. This is too bad, I’m a BIG fan of Xyron and own many of their products and think they are Great!
I would like to know if anyone has the “Wizard die cut and embossing machine” and if so, what do you think? Do you like it and are the dies easily purchased? Thanks, Shirley

Hi purchase the PCS from HSN. I love it! It cuts more than one letter at a time. You just spell out the word it fits what it can to the paper and then will want another piece of paper to move on to the next section of letters. I did have my paper come up but found it I used a little pressure it stuck. I will contact Xyron about my mat, but overall I love it. It is not that noisy it beeps a little loud to tell you it is on but other than that it is quiet. My 9 year old daughter loves it. I can’t wait to get more books to pop in! I am keeping my Wizard for my other diecuts as it is one of my favorits too.

Hello.
I have been reading all the comments about the Xyron PCS as I am debating on purchasing one for myself. It seems as though many are having problems. The last posting I read was a positive one.
I’m not sure what to do. I have a Sizzix, but it is very cumbersome to bring cropping and stuff.

I have to chime in here on the Xyron PCS. Remember that people with problems may be more likely to look for a forum for help, and to post a message. Of course, they have good intentions — trying to save people from having the same problems.
I have owned the Xyron PCS for over a month and I am thrilled with it. The price is certainly right at $29.99-$49.99 per book depending on the number of shapes and where you get it (HSN seems to have the best prices). We figured out that to purchase just the font and the shapes that come with the unit for either Sizzix or Quickutz would cost over $1,000.
Every shape or letter can be printed in three different sizes and the font books also come with shadows. Sometimes there is a little section that does not quite cut through, but I had worse trouble with that with my Sizzix.
You do have to sort of rub the paper to put it solidly on the mat, but once I figured that out it was no problem. One of the things we also found was that if you use a spray adhesive on your paper it sticks better and prolongs the life of your mat. Also, if you do that your items come off with an adhesive backing — ready to use, so it saves a step.
Right now, the mats are like gold. They are hard to get — probably because they had that bad batch and they are trying to take care of that first.
I’ve also had a little trouble with the unit not recognizing what page the book is on. I found that sometimes you have to hold the page indicator down firmly in order for it to register, but it is really not a big deal. I usually choose all of the letters I need to print and get the machine cutting while I work on something else.
It is so much easier to use than my Quickutz and Sizzix machine. I think I will probably sell them on eBay soon.
I did have a problem with my first mat, but the company replaced it with two new mats, plus they sent a free batch to my LSS — one for each of the 12 systems she sold.
I highly recommend the product!!!

I purchased the Xyron PCS one week ago from today. I have used the original mat that I got with the machine several times. I to have noted a slight problem with the mat. It works better with light weight paper. I have just called the place from which I purchesed it from and they are going to give me another mat to replace my original one. I love my machine, it cuts three different sizes of letters. It wonderful. I can not wait to get another book that has a different font.

I haven’t tried the Xyron, but my friend was a tester for Cricut and it is the BOMB. I am so excited, I can hardly stand it. She let me use it and now I am hooked. (I may have my other systems up for sale for cheap). lol I have to have one as soon as it comes out. It was so fun and easy to use. I didn’t have any of the problems with it, that you are having with the xyron. It sounds like Cricut will do allot more. We were able to cut letters from 1″ to 5.5″ and when we used some of the special features we were actually able to get much smaller letters. There is one cartridge that is really fun. It lets you cut out cute little gift boxes and other paper crafts. Her daughters have been using this one non-stop. It is really cute because her 3 girls and all of their friends use it so much now, she can only get a turn when they are at school. It is so simple to figure out. I love that it will cut a topper or boarder that is 5.5″ X 11.5″. The cartridges seemed a little pricey at $89 but after seeing that you can cut so many sizes and all the features that can be applied to each letter or shape, it is really a good deal. My friend figures it would cost over $4000 in traditional dies to get everything you get on one cartridge. I think it will be available in May, but I am going to see if my she has any inside info to get one sooner. I hope this info helps. Sorry I don’t have a direct comparison, since I haven’t used the xyron.

I rec’d my PCS the end of March and within 4 days it was down (not getting any power to the circuits). Called tech support on 3/27 with the problem on 3/29 they said they were replacing the machine. It’s now 4/14 and I have yet to get the machine after numerous call to xyron customer services. I have even been given tracking numbers to track my package from UPS that were not valid numbers. I certainly hope that when it does actually arrive that I don’t have further problems with it……Ann

I just got on line and the replacement blades for the cutter have gone way down in price to 12.99 down from 34.99. I received my free mats from xyron when I called and complained. That took about 5 days to get. I found one site that charges less for the books. It is ktcrafts.com. I am happy with my machine and I like the book prices. All machines have bugs in the begining. I think peoples expectations were too high and were highly disapointed when the machine didn’t work perfectly.
21/04/2006 at 5:27 pm Permalink
I’m glad to hear that xyron has lowered the price of the cutting blade. And that the issues with the sticky mat have also been resolved. However, this does not resolve the issue that the machine cuts circles with straight sides, or that the die needs to be snipped out by hand instead of just punching out of the cardstock as shown on HSN during the demo. I will agree that all machines have bugs IN THE BEGINNING. If you purchase a first generation machine the bugs will be there forever, because they are fixed in the next generations. I for one do not have disposable income that would allow me to pay $150.00 for a product that does not work perfect first time, everytime.
26/04/2006 at 8:09 am Permalink
Just a question about paper weight that this machine can cut. Is it strictly lightweight paper, OR does it handle cardstocks that are a bit beefier? I had read about other systems that need to be attached to a computer to cut, and if the cut was done twice, it handled heavier cardstock.
Anyone know or have experience with this?
Thanks!

I used my 50% off coupon to buy my machine so I only paid $100 . I also noticed the xyron site had the cutting blades for 12.99 where AC moore was charging $35 so I emailed acmoore corp. and also talked to the store mgr about it. I am figuring if the store lowers the price to $12.99 I can use my coupons and get 40 or 50 % off…..I have already purchased replacement mats that way..I like the maching just wish it had more books…….I checked out the cricut and wish I had waited for that , the books look great but very expensive……..

I also used 50% off at A.C. Moore for my Xyron Personal Cutting System. I love this machine and playing more and more with it each day. Today I took it in to the Scrapbooking store I use locally and demonstrated it to the owner of the store. She was very impressed and will be ordering her one. The only thing I see wrong with the machine a drawback is it will not cut chipboard like my sizzix does. But the fonts and shapes are awesome and like the three sizes. Also so much less expensive than other cutting system. After purchasing this and being so pleased I
am going to purchase a pazzle and laser printer. Cost is approximately $3000.00 but will do anything and everything I want in die cutting. Good luck and again this personal cutting system is a very good investment for scrappers.

You guys were asking about the weight of the paper that the XPCS cuts. It easily cuts the Bazzill paper but does have trouble with the slicker paper as it doens’t have anything to hold onto. If you sand the paper downa bit on the shiny side that is touching the mat, then you should be good to go.
Also, the Cricut si more of a competitor for the Wishblade, but the cartridges are much more expensive. The WB cuts any TTF/shape up to 8.5″ while the Cricut only cuts the letters that come in the disk and then only up to about 6″. It really depends on what you are looking for and how much you’d liek to spend. The XPCS is completely portable and relatively cheap (even the books are reasonable!), and the WB is more pricey up front but cuts any TTF (and any shape that oyu download from the internet) so there’s no need to purchase more alphas, and then the Cricut is pried between the two but you have to lay our $80 or so on each alpha. Like the XPCS, the Cricut is portable, but the WB requires a computer to operate. I have the XOCS and the WB and have access to over 1300 different fonts on the WB, ss I’m very happy with the two of them! I’d be glad to share any info if you have questions – I love my machines! -Suzie

Can you use paper that has been run through a Xyron to add the adhesive backing with the Xyron Personal Cutting System or will it damage the blade? Thanks!

Okay, so it’s June now, and I expect that people are used to their XPCS’s and have received replacements for faulty cutting mats, etc. Now can I ask what you all think of your machines. I’m so enticed by the new Cricut, but boy is that a lot of pocket change! Still, I like the wide range of options available with the Cricut, and I also like that it holds 12″ paper rather than the little Xyron square. I was at a crop last month and the gal was having the same sticky problems w/her XPCS as you all have talked about. I would appreciate any thoughts you have.

I love my Xyron Personal Cutting System…and have had no problems with it.
The Cricut does NOT use 12×12 paper. But it does use larger than the 4×4. I will also buy one of those eventually!

I just got my Xyron machine on Monday. Went home that night and did a lil scrapbooking with my 4 year old (loves it) It worked fine and I was soooo excited. Went home last night and did some more but then realized that the mat was not sticky anymore….I had barely used it. ( I am just using small pieces of tape on the edges to hold in place) Now, Im wondering if I jumped the gun here, I just started Scrapping so I had no idea that this was that new of a product. So much for a Great Birthday present (B-day coming up, husband bought this for me) Other than that it’s wonderful. Sometimes is doesnt cut all the way to where I have to punch out some of the letters..Like the inside circles of the O or e but no big deal on that.

Daughter & I shared the purchase of the Xyron at AC Moore when it was on sale for half price at the end of summer. Our local craft store owner had one and loved it. We also used our 40% off coupons and got extra alphabet and tag books for it. It stopped working entirely after a few letters. The cutter was frozen in place. They tried all the troubleshooting suggestions in the book to no avail. I returned it for a new one. AC Moore has a very good return policy. Daughter took it home, plugged it in, put the alphabet book cartridge in, chose the shape and size, put the paper on the mat, and pushed the button to cut. Nothing! Got an error message to shut the lid and try again [the lid was shut]. She unplugged and replugged it several times, tried a different cartridge book. Nothing, same error message. Needless to say, back it went along with the books for a full refund. Now I see it on sale at AC Moore at about 70% off, and I’m tempted…..but shall resist!! LOL!

I am researching which personal cutting system to purchase. Previously I had only heard of Provocraft cricut expression but after doing some research on the internet, it seems there are many competing brands and models available. One of the problems with the Cricut is the cost of the cartridges. Also I really want a system that let’s me use the fonts and designs from my computer so I can scan logos and other images into the computer then cut and print them. It would also be helpful if the purchased designs could be downloaded from the website instead of having to buy and wait for the cartridges. I want to be able to cut paper, vinyl and fabric. If anyone has suggestions or recommendations please let me know. I will really appreciate all of the help I can get.
