Tarepanda Scrapbook Page

Panda PageSome of you may have already seen my Tarepanda page a while ago, but I want to post it again this new site. :) The page took me about 4 hours to make. I got the idea from this Tarepanda stationary I had, and I thought it’d go great with this photo of Albert and me holding the panda.

The first thing I had to do was find scraps that I can cut up to be the panda’s body. I sketched out the body and face first in white cardstock paper. The cool thing about this is that it doesn’t have to be ‘exact.’ A sketch will do and you can modify it while you’re cutting — which is what I did. Then I took scraps of black paper and cut out the arms, eyes, nose, second layer of the body, ears, tail, and eyeballs. And last, I cut out two white circles for the second layer of the eyes. Again, you can use some sort of ruler to cut the circles, but I just estimate it.

Once the panda was done, I started to cut out props (other things I can decorate my page with). I used two shades of orange paper for the slice of orange. That was easy to make. Cut out a half circle, and tiny triangles for the center, then glue together.

Next, I cut out the dish. The panda was bigger than I thought, so I was only able to show a part of the dish. No matter, just cut off the rest after you align it to the background. I drew a design on the dish with colored pencil, but this is optional, and may look better with cut out pieces instead.

I also had a hard time picking out the background color. I was going to use black, but as this project progressed, I thought more bright/light colors were better. So my pastel sheets came in handy.

For the rest of the dish, I cut a lime green and a smaller yellow half circle and made a slice of lime. I cut a small circle and a little piece of brown/orange paper to make a cherry. And for the cake, I cut a pink square and a wavy white peice for the topping. Also for the topping, I cut out little orange circles and glued all the peices together.

Of course, you can’t forget to cut out the photo. Now that everything is cut out, you can sort of figure out where you want to place the objects.

The dish was placed first on the background. I only glued the bottom and sides of the page, leaving the top free. This way, I can place the other objects in the dish if I wanted to. The panda was next, and then the photo, orange slice, and cake. The cherry and lime were mainly used for decoration. Any piece going off the page will be cut off (see lime).

For the word “YUM,” I used these pre-cut pastel letters I bought a while ago. And confetti was used to decorate the background. You can get a lot of those for about $1 a pack. :)

I was pretty satisfied when the page was done. It was a lot of work, but well worth it.
